How boaters access clean drinking water and safe sanitation services on the waterways of England and Wales is part of a bigger story of water insecurity around the world.
Currently, the UK (along with many countries in the Global North) claim that 99.8% of people use ‘safely managed drinking water services’. However, we know that there is a more complex story to be uncovered here.
We've designed this website to highlight boaters' day-to-day experiences of water & sanitation services (the good, the bad and the ugly!). We invite you to learn more by exploring this map - and contribute your own stories.
What we’re doing
- Interviews (in person and online) - understanding the impact of water insecurity on boaters.
- Workshops/focus groups (in person) - investigating who is responsible for providing water and sanitation services to boaters.
- Crowdsourced mapping of services (on this website!)
